Would you like to start flying with a team of quad line kitefliers soon? We suggest you learn team flying with the standard Jst-4-Fn. Over 90 team flying animations and numerous examples are available!
The vocabulary of these figures is well known in Europe, mainly in Germany and the Netherlands.
This content has been reviewed and validated by the co-creators of this standard, Roelof van der Tak and Marc van der Graaf. Thank you Roelof and Marc!
The Jst-4-Fn standard
You may already be familiar with the Jst-4-Fn standard. This standard provides the basics for any kiteflier who wants to fly as part of a team, whatever their level and wherever in the world they fly. With the conventions on offer, you can join a team on the ground and fly together quickly with 2, 10, 30 kitefliers… You can even improvise a team with the kitefliers around you, have fun quickly and offer a demonstration to the public.
A number of experienced pilots have been keeping Jst-4-Fn alive on a voluntary basis for over 10 years. In fact, this standard is not affiliated with any organization.
We’ve included this manual and enriched it with over 90 practical maneuvers by the community! We advise you to read the basics straight away, or take a look at the summary of the various maneuvers below. You can also download the original Jst-4-Fn manual in PDF format: French – English – German – Spanish – Italian.
You’ll soon notice that the leader’s calls are in English. This choice of language allows teams to be formed whatever the nationality of the participants. This is particularly useful at international festivals or convivials (Berck, Dieppe, Brouwersdam, Marseille, etc.).
Discover maneuvers in 4 levels
Based on our experience in the field, we have organized the progression into 4 levels:
- The basics cover the fundamentals of team flying and basic maneuvers.
- Intermediate maneuvers are those we practice regularly as a team. They are often explained during the flight and easily understood on the first or second try.
- Advanced maneuvers are more difficult to master. They can be tricky to explain during a flight, and kitefliers sometimes make mistakes. Beginners may be impressed, or even anxious, at the idea of executing them.
- Advanced maneuvers are the hardest to master, and rarer on the flying field. Experience has shown that kitefliers need to perform them several times before they are fully mastered.
