“Novice” multi-line Individual compulsory figures

⚠️ Note: this content applies to French FFVL competitions only. It is written in English for convenience and educational purposes, as the format and figures are particularly valuable for learning and progression. It does not describe an international competition standard.

Flying together is even more fun!
Here you’ll find all the official figures for the “Novice” category in dual-line pair.
Coordination, timing and precision are on the program — but always with the desire to progress while having fun.

If you arrive directly here, think about going through our overview of the “Novice” format to understand how these figures fit into the competition… and how they can boost your pair flying.

DPN01 – Circles

DPN01 - Circles
DPN01 – Circles

Description

The kites in pursuit mode on a straight horizontal line perform a large circle in parallel, on either side of the center of the window before continuing their course on the straight line.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the first kite is approximately at the location where the second kite must perform its circle.
  • The OUT is given when the second kite is approximately at the location where the first kite performed its circle

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally).
  • The circles must be regular and well synchronized.

DPN02 – Squares

DPN02 - Squares
DPN02 – Squares

Description

The kites in pursuit mode on a straight horizontal line perform a large square in parallel, on either side of the center of the window before continuing their course on the straight line.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the first kite is approximately in the middle of the square that the second kite must perform.
  • The OUT is given when the second kite is approximately in the middle of the square that the first kite performed.

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally).
  • The sides of the squares must be of identical size and the squares must be well synchronized.

DPN03 – Separation

DPN03 - Separation
DPN03 – Separation

Description

The kites in pursuit mode on a straight horizontal line reach the axis of the center of the window and climb along it using a right angle. When the 2 kites are correctly aligned on the vertical axis, they separate, one going to the right and the other to the left, turn at the same time, downward (half-turn) to return toward the center of the window. There, they simultaneously resume their climb (using a right angle) before finishing, still in pursuit, toward the outside of the window (after a last right angle).

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the 2 kites are well aligned on a line parallel to the ground and before having reached the center of the window.
  • The OUT is given when the 2 kites are well aligned on a line parallel to the ground and after having left the central axis of the window

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally and vertically).
  • The half-turns must be identical and well synchronized. The right angles to enter and exit the separation must also be well synchronized.

DPN04 – Power dive

DPN04 - Power dive
DPN04 – Power dive

Description

The kites descend in parallel and at the same speed then perform side by side and at the same time a small circle of 540° (1½ turns) so as to find themselves oriented toward the sky to finish by climbing back to the same level as at the start.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the 2 kites, aligned on the same line, head toward the ground.
  • The OUT is given when the 2 kites, aligned on the same line, have climbed back to the starting level.

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (vertically).
  • The circles must be regular, identical (of the same size) and well synchronized

DPN06 – Crossing

DPN06 - Crossing
DPN06 – Crossing

Description

The kites perform a mirror trajectory (relative to a horizontal axis) and cross at the center of the window in a figure resembling an x.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the 2 kites, aligned on the same vertical line, follow a common horizontal trajectory.
  • The OUT is given when the 2 kites, aligned on the same vertical line, follow again a common horizontal trajectory after having exchanged their position (on the height).

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally, diagonally).
  • The direction changes and speeds must be well synchronized.
  • The kites must not touch each other at the moment of crossing.

DPN07 – Staggered landing

DPN07 - Staggered landing
DPN07 – Staggered landing

Description

The kites follow a parallel horizontal trajectory. Shortly before reaching the central axis of the window, the highest kite performs a right angle and begins a descent to land. The second kite performs the same operation a little later so as to land at the same moment as the first kite

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the 2 kites, aligned on the same vertical line, follow a common horizontal trajectory.
  • The OUT is given when the 2 kites are landed

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally and vertically).
  • The landings must be simultaneous.

DPN08 – Vertical eight

DPN08 - Vertical eight
DPN08 – Vertical eight

Description

In pursuit mode on a horizontal line, the 2 kites simultaneously perform a large vertical 8, on either side of the central axis of the window, before resuming their course on the same horizontal line as at the beginning of the figure.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the first kite has just passed the central axis of the window.
  • The OUT is given just before the second kite passes the central axis of the window.

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally).
  • The 8s must be regular and well synchronized.

DPN09 – Face to face circle

DPN09 - Face to face circle
DPN09 – Face to face circle

Description

The 2 kites perform a mirror movement along a straight line parallel to the ground and punctuated by a large circle, performed downward for the highest kite and upward for the lowest kite. Each kite performs its circle on its side of the center of the window axis. Once its circle is completed, each kite resumes its course in the direction it was following at the beginning of the figure.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the 2 kites are in position to perform the mirror figure.
  • The OUT is given when each of the 2 kites finishes its horizontal trajectory at the intersection of the vertical line of departure of the other kite.

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally).
  • The circles must be regular and well synchronized.

DPN10 – Spirals

DPN10 - Spirals
DPN10 – Spirals

Description

The 2 kites in pursuit mode on the same horizontal line simultaneously perform a spiral on either side of the center of the window then resume their course in pursuit mode on another horizontal line.

Entry / Exit

  • The IN is given when the first kite has just crossed the center of the window axis.
  • The OUT is given when the second kite is about to cross the center of the window axis.

Tips / Key elements

  • The lines must be straight and aligned relative to the ground (horizontally).
  • The spirals must be regular and well synchronized.
