Kite competitions and compulsory figures
Competition is not only about rankings. It also gives you a frame to set goals, improve precision, and meet other pilots.
This section starts with compulsory figures, because they give concrete references: path, timing, control, and field reading. Other topics may come later — ballet, mixed formats, preparation, judging — but without mixing everything from the start.
For quad-line pilots, competition figures complement learning to fly. They do not replace flying for fun; they offer another way to observe and work on precision.
Compulsory figures: your entry points
Section titled "Compulsory figures: your entry points"Choose the “Novice” format for a progressive introduction to competition in France, or the ISK reference for figures used internationally.
Discover competition from the inside
Section titled "Discover competition from the inside"- Jean-Pierre Dravigney explains how he prepares for a competition: figures, rehearsals, ballet, focus, and dealing with surprises.
- Marc Levesque shares what happens behind the scenes: organization, judging, the role of clubs, and taking your first step onto the field.
Need foundations before competing?
Section titled "Need foundations before competing?"If you fly quad-line kites, first strengthen the skills used by the figures:
- Review the flying basics if hovering, reverse flight, or rotations are not yet consistent.
- Work on precision flying to stabilize paths, angles, and speed.
- Follow the Club 38 curriculum if you prefer a progression organized by level.
In short
Section titled "In short"Whether you are curious, a beginner, or already ready to compete, competition can be a useful reason to progress with method.
Set reasonable challenges, observe what happens in the wind window, and keep pleasure at the center: it is still the best way to keep flying.
To meet competitors, find a club, or look for an event, explore the kite community entry points.
