Key takeaways from this video
- Pulling is a natural reaction that causes the crash; replace it with the stop, both thumbs forward, like your foot on the brake pedal.
- Fly with your thumbs back 99% of the time; a brief push of one thumb forward turns towards its side.
- The simulator, indoors or out, with or without wind, removes the stress of crashing so you can work on your skills.
- Practise two minutes a day: launch, stop, turn left, stop, turn right, stop.

The crash problem
0:00I'm Joe Hadzicki and I'm the inventor of the Revolution kite. Let's take a few minutes and improve your Rev flying skills. One of my favorite things about the Reflex design is the hand launch. Well, that wasn't supposed to happen. Let's fix that right now. The solution to the crash problem is Revolution Club 38 skill number five.
Practising on the simulator
0:50We're going to use the simulator today because it removes that stress of flying and crashing. You won't crash with it. The simulator is great to work on your skills because you can use it indoors, outdoors, in wind or no wind. It makes no difference, but it removes that stress. You can use any model with the simulator, and today we have the Double X mounted to the simulator. If your goal is to tear up the sky with advanced Rev skills, the Double X is a great choice. Its larger size and Reflex design make it more stable, which makes it much easier for you to learn your skills.
The stop: thumbs forward
1:35Remember that crash I started with? That was caused by a pulling motion. Pulling is a natural reaction, but we need to replace that with skill number five, the stop. You do the stop with thumb pressure. What's thumb pressure? Fly with your thumbs rotated back. You should be here 99% of the time. For one split second, use thumb pressure on the left side to cause a left turn. Right thumb pressure forward causes a right turn. Skill number five, both thumbs forward: stop the Rev. How do you remember that? In your car, when you want to stop your car, you slam your foot forward. Same thing with the Rev: slam that forward. You have to do it automatically.
Practising the stop
2:23Okay, let's practice it right now on the simulator. Here we go. Thumbs up, launch your kite, stop. Turn to the left, stop. Turn to the right, stop. Practise this skill two minutes a day, and in no time you'll lock it down. We'll see you on the field soon.
