Improve Your Rev Skills: Comparing Two Strategies by Revolution Kites

Key takeaways from this video

  • The three challenges follow each other: climb, stop, reverse and land; then take off, hold a hover and land; finally, stop the Rev in every direction.
  • Moving figure by figure, passing each one, makes the next easier and always keeps a goal in sight.
  • Going for it without a method is fun for a while, but brings little progress and ends in frustration.
  • In the Club 38, a video teaches the figure, you practise, you send your video, and passing opens the next level.

  1. Two ways to approach the Rev

    0:00

Hi, I'm Joe Hadzicki, inventor of the Revolution. At Club 38, our goal is for you to be successful and have some fun. There are two different strategies here, so let's look at two ways of approaching the Revolution. Both involve a challenge. In one, we step through the challenge and move forward. In the other, we just go for it and see where it leads. Here we go.

  2. The two strategies

    0:25

For strategy number one, I'm wearing my hat this way. This means I'm serious: I'm going after the challenge, I'm staying focused on the skill, and I'm going to see if I can pass it and move on to the next skill. For strategy number two, I'm going to be a little more reckless and just go for it. That's why I'm wearing my hat off to the side. Let's see what it leads to. We'll use both strategies on three challenges, hopefully leading to Rev success and happiness.

  3. Challenge one: stop and land

    0:52

Challenge number one: fly your Rev up, stop it, back it down and land it. Okay, that wasn't that great, but I think I basically did it. I went up, I stopped it, I backed it down, and I learned how to use the basic rotation of the handles. I think I did the challenge. I'm going to practice a few more times to see if I can smooth it out a little, but I think I'm ready for challenge number two.

  4. The reckless pilot's first try

    1:18

Let's see how my buddy is doing. Oh, I'm not sure exactly what went wrong, but it was pretty exciting. I think I'll just give it another try. Okay, that didn't go great. We didn't even get to the part where you're supposed to back your Rev down and land it, so he's got a little way to go.

  5. How Club 38 works

    1:38

The way Club 38 works is that you get a video that teaches you how to do the skill, you practice the skill, you fly the skill, we check you off, we pass you to the next level, and you move on to the next level's skills. Let's go back to pilot number one, strategy number one, and see how he's doing. Yeah, I think I'm getting this. I've been doing it a few times and it's getting better and better. I'm going to send a video and see if I passed. Did I actually pass? Yes, you did pass, and now you're ready for the second challenge. You send your video, we take a look at it, we review it, and then we give you the response, and then you're ready to go on to the next level.

  6. Challenge two: hover and land

    2:27

Challenge number two: launch, then stop and hover, then come back down and land. Hey, that's not bad. After working on that first skill, the second one, adding on to it, really wasn't that hard. I'm going to practice a little bit more, but I think I've almost got it. All right, strategy one seems to be working pretty well. Let's see how strategy number two is doing.

  7. Strategy two keeps pounding

    3:10

I'm doing something wrong, I don't know what it is, but I'm kind of having fun. With the Rev, you just reverse it off and take off again. I'm not sure if I'm getting anywhere, but I'm just going to keep pounding around until I figure this one out. Okay, strategy number two is still having fun. He's kind of beating up his Rev and he's not really making any progress. The frustration hasn't really set in yet, so that's good, but we're not really getting anywhere. Let's see how strategy number one is coming along.

  8. Strategy one makes headway

    3:53

All right, I'm actually making some headway here. I think I've got the basic skill down. In fact, I figured out how I can take it, hover it, bring it down and then take it back up again. I think I'm ready. I'm going to send in a video and see if I can move on to the next skill. Yes, you did pass. Great job.

  9. Challenge three: stop in every direction

    4:06

Here's challenge number three: fly your Rev up and just stop it in all different directions. Give that a try, and let's see how our other pilot started. This thing doesn't fly right. I'm done with this, I'm going to find something else to do. Okay, I think the frustration has finally set in. Was it the kite's fault or pilot error? I'd be tempted to say that what he should have done was join Club 38, get to a couple of levels, build a little bit of confidence and have a little fun. Well, I think he might be done. Let's see how pilot number one is doing. Yeah, this is pretty good. I'm getting the hang of it. After doing the first couple of skills, I just keep adding on and it's not that hard. People really like the fact that one skill leads to the next and you always have something to shoot for: you have the next skill to go for. So I'm doing great, I'm having fun and I'm moving along. I'm glad I did Club 38.

  10. The moral of the story

    5:33

What's the moral of that story? Do you want to be pilot number one or pilot number two? You've got to get in there, build that foundation and learn those basic skills. That's what leads to true Rev happiness. See you on the field.
