Slow-Motion Technique for Mastering the Rev by Revolution Kites

Key takeaways from this video

  • Speed control works like a dimmer rather than a switch: it lets you adjust the Rev's pace very finely.
  • Exercise: go from a left side hover to a right side hover at full speed, then slower and slower, down to an inverted hover.
  • Slowing down to a standstill is the hover: a way to break an advanced figure such as the tumbleweed into easier pieces.
  • You can even rewind: fly the figure to a stopping point, then fly slowly back the other way.

  1. Speed control as a dimmer

Hi, I'm Joe Hadzicki, inventor of the Revolution kite. One of the fastest ways to master your Revolution is a technique called slow-motion flying. The Rev has the incredible ability of total speed control. Imagine a light switch that you flip on and off. Now we're going to add a dimmer switch, which lets us control that very precisely. Our dimmer switch on the Revolution is the speed control. What we're going to do is start out with the side hover technique. We're going to flip back and forth between left and right side hover at full speed. Then we're going to use our speed control to slow it down and look at the details of that skill. Then we're going to slow it down and push that range even toward an inverted hover. This is what it looks like. Now push the limit.

  2. Breaking a skill down

    1:22

But how slow can you go? You can go slower and slower until finally you stop, and that's called the hover. You can use this technique to break a skill down into smaller, more manageable pieces. Let's take a look at the advanced skill of the tumbleweed and see how we can break it down. Hold it up.

  3. The rewind technique

    2:45

You can actually take this process one step further. How is that possible? Just hit the rewind button. Fly your pattern, go to your stop point, then fly slowly and reverse back. This is what it looks like. It flies through and backs up. Using these techniques, slow-motion flying, hovering and rewind, let's see how far you can push.
