Key takeaways from this video
- Start with a turn over the top and lock in a stable side hover on each side: right foot forward for the right hover, left foot forward for the left hover.
- The turn underneath starts with the bottom wing, forward or in reverse; switch feet exactly when the Rev is upside down.
- Without that step, your arms are in the wrong position and the Rev plants its wingtip in the ground.
- Intermediate step: go only as far as the inversion and come back to your starting point, on each side, before putting the two together.

The bottom turn and footwork
0:00I'm Joe Hadzicki, inventor of the Revolution, and today I'm going to show you some tips and tricks on one of our advanced skills here at Revolution Club 38: the 180 bottom turn. We're going to start from a side hover and do a bottom turn to the side hover going in the other direction. I'm going to do a little demonstration, and watch the footwork, because it's important. This is also confusing for people because the kite turns underneath, and they're used to turning over the top. The footwork is really the tricky part of this. We're starting from a side hover, which means you're floating and you've got your feet arranged in that direction. Then we flip over to the other side and rotate our feet.
Turning over the top
1:09So let's start nice and easy with a turn over the top, practicing our footwork. The very important part is to have your side hover nice and stable, to be able to turn into that and know where it is and how it feels. So what I want you to do is that over-the-top turn, and then lock in that side hover on each side, focusing on the footwork. Practice that until you're rock solid on those hovers and you know exactly how to get right to them: right foot forward, right hover, turn over the top, left foot forward, left hover.
The inverted turn
2:03Now take that a step further and we're going to do an inverted turn. We're going to do it the same way we did the 360 snaps: we initiate the turn with the bottom wing, either forward or reverse, and then as it rotates underneath, when it's upside down, that's exactly when you switch your feet. If you don't step through, your arms are going to be in the wrong position and you're going to drive your Rev into the ground on its tip. So this is what it should look like.
Going halfway
4:03An in-between step might be to go halfway. What we're really focusing on here is the step-through and the timing. When you're inverted, you should be rotating from that foot forward, your feet even, and then as you go to the other side, your other foot goes forward. So let's just go halfway through it. Start with one foot forward, then step, then rotate to the halfway point, which is an inversion, and then come back out of that inversion to where you started. It looks like this.
Putting it together
4:49Let's take it one step further. Now let's do a hover from the side to the inversion, and then do a hover from the other side to the inversion. Do that a few times to get the feel for it. It's not going to happen instantly; it might take you a couple of outings to get this down. But then put those two together and you'll go from side hover, to inverted, to the other side. It looks like this. We'll see you on the field.
