Key takeaways from this video
- Fly the kite straight up, put both handles in one hand and pull the top two lines sharply: the kite comes straight down and you catch it.
- Face the kite straight toward you when you start to catch, or it goes off to the side.
- Hold it like a javelin, one hand on the end cap and one toward the middle, throw with a slight spin, then turn it over when the lines become taut.
- Try with shorter lines first: the trick is easier.

I have a new tutorial on the toss and catch. The kite flies straight up, then falls straight down and you catch it; after catching it, you throw it somewhat like a javelin and fly away, as you can see right there.
To begin the catch, fly the kite straight up. When it gets to the top of the wind window, quickly put both handles in one hand, grab the top two lines and pull down sharply. The kite comes flying straight down and you catch it; you can see it again here in slow motion. One useful tip: make sure the kite is facing straight toward you when you begin to catch, otherwise it goes off to the side and you have to run after it.
Next is the toss. Hold the kite like a javelin, one hand on the end cap and the other more toward the middle, and toss it out with a slight spin, as you can see in slow motion. When the lines become taut, turn it over and fly away.
Another point to remember: try the toss and catch with shorter lines first, because the shorter the lines, the easier the trick.
That's how you do a toss and catch on an outdoor Revolution kite. Get out, get some short lines and try it.
