Key takeaways from this video
- The fade starts like a flic flac on the ground: pull the bottom lines while the kite stands upright so it flips over.
- Walk backwards so that air fills the reverse side of the sail and the kite rises a couple of feet.
- A tug then sends it toward you for the catch. A toss that lets the kite flip over completes the trick.

This is the tutorial for the Revolution fade, a trick requested by Wen. It's a new catch I learned just the other day, and I'm going to show you how to do it.
The fade starts like a ground flic flac, where the kite flips over. Then, while you back up, you keep the kite in the air, give it a bit of a spin, and catch it.
Here's a close-up of my hands so you can see exactly what I'm doing. At the beginning, give a bit of a pull on the bottom lines while the kite is standing upright; this lets it flip over. After it flips, start walking backwards so that air fills the bottom side, the reverse side of the sail, and the kite rises a bit. Once it's a couple of feet in the air, give a bit of a tug; I tend to tug on my left hand, but it doesn't really matter. The kite flies toward you and you catch it.
And here's a view from far away, so you can see both the kite and my hands: the kite flips over, fills with air, rises, gets a bit of a spin, and I catch it.
I'll also show you a toss to go with the fade. Since the kite flips over, the lines end up on the side facing away from you. Hold the kite by the leading edge and swing it out so your hands go away from you and the leading edge leads the kite. Let it float away, flip over and fly away.
That's the fade on an indoor Revolution. Get out there and try it.
