Rev Travel Kit Description and Assembly by Revolution Kites

Key takeaways from this video

  • The travel kit fits in a suitcase: each rod is cut in half, hence six rods for the XX's leading edge.
  • For a down strut, join two rods by their ferrule, spring at the top; the kit includes a spare so you can keep flying if something breaks.
  • For the leading edge, start with the only rod without a ferrule, then stack the others ferrule first, without forcing so as not to tear the sail.
  • The spring goes on the inside, towards the centre of the wing.

  1. Introducing the travel kit

    0:00

Hi, Joe Hadzicki from Revolution Kites, and I'd like to congratulate you on getting a travel kit. This is the only thing I use whenever I travel. It makes it really easy; everything packs down in your suitcase. Awesome. All right, in the kit, what you look for is what's different.

  2. Springs and down struts

    0:16

First of all, we've got three sets of springs, so take those out. So you've got three sets. These do not have ferrules in them, and the way you set these up is the spring goes to the top of the shaft, so you can see here this is the top, this is not the top, and this is the top. The other thing is, take a ferrule shaft and put that together, and now you have a complete down strut. We've got three of those: ferrule, down strut, spring to the top, ferrule in the bottom. One of these is a replacement, so it's an extra part. We've got two spare parts, and if you have a broken shaft, you don't have to stop flying. You've got what you need to keep flying.

  3. Leading edge shafts

    1:10

All right, with the down struts done, let's move on to the leading edge. Using the XX, it has six shafts: one, two, three, four, five, six. That's because each shaft, normally there are three, is split in half, which gives us six. I start with the one without a ferrule. There's only one without a ferrule; here it is. I put that one in first, and all the rest of the shafts just stack, ferrule first. Ferrule goes in, ferrule goes in, that's three, halfway there. Ferrule goes in, four. Ferrule goes in, five. Take your time, make sure it goes in smoothly. Don't force it in; you don't want to tear your leading edge.

  4. Placing the springs

    1:59

Okay, now I'm putting our springs in. I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet so we don't use up too much time. The spring goes to the inside of the wing. Okay, so here we go, we've got this one pointing to the inside. You can put it on either side. For your replacement one, I put the cap to the outside, ferrule, and you can attach the Velcro at that point. Put your cap on, do that on the other side, and you're ready to fly. Remember: spring goes in, spring goes to the top. Same thing there. You want that spring going inward toward the center of the wing.
