Revolutionize Your Line Management: Rev Cap Winder Update by Revolution Kites

Key takeaways from this video

  • The cap winder halves the walking time, removes the knots to tie and almost eliminates tangles.
  • Its limits: changing handles means fully unrolling the lines, and the two separate caps are awkward.
  • Linking the caps with a single cord makes one simple unit; with 30 ft (about 9 m) lines, setup and takedown become very quick.
  • To remove the lines from the kite, put them one by one, in order, on the winder's small hook.

  1. Why use the cap winder

    0:00

Hi, I'm Joe Hadzicki, inventor of the Revolution, and lately I've been flying with our new cap winder. It's been saving me a lot of time in line management; maybe it can save you some time too. As I've said before, if you're comfortable with your line management system, there's no reason to change, but I found that under certain conditions the cap winder can really save you a lot of time.

  2. Pros and cons

    0:18

I've been flying with the new cap winder for a couple of months now, and here are my pros and cons. One, it's faster, since walking time is cut in half. Two, it's easier, since line tying is eliminated. And three, it virtually eliminates any tangle issues. On the downside, if you want to switch out handles, you have to completely unwind your lines. Also, I found that I really don't like the two separate caps; they're kind of hard to manage.

  3. Single-cord setup

    0:54

So let's change that and put a single cord between them, making it one unit. I like to keep things as simple as possible, so for me this is the perfect setup for my go-to Rev, the Reflex XX. Everything is set up and ready to go: your handles, your lines, and your Rev. If you only have one Rev, this might be the perfect setup for you. To make things even simpler, short 30-foot lines are a total game changer.

  4. Setup and teardown

    1:22

Let's go through my usual setup. That is sweet. No knots, no tangles. The short lines are super fast to set up. All right, let's tear it down. Wow, what an awesome session. With that fast of a setup and that fast of a teardown, you've got more time to fly. It makes flying your Rev super easy.

  5. Removing lines from the kite

    6:02

If you'd like to remove your lines from your kite, take your lines off individually and put them on the winder, on this little horn, in order. Then when you take them back off the horn to put them back on the kite, you greatly eliminate any chance of tangles.
